چکیده

Concurrent analysis of composite materials can provide the interaction among scales for better design, analysis, and performance prediction. A data-driven concurrent n-scale modeling approach ( $$\text {FExSCA}^\text {n-1}$$ ) is adopted in this paper woven composites utilizing a mechanistic reduced order model (ROM) called Self-consistent Clustering Analysis (SCA). We demonstrated multiscale theory with {FExSCA}^2$$ to study 3-scale carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) laminate structure. significantly expensive 3D nested representative volume element (RVE) computation unidirectional (UD) structures by developing material database. The procedure established integrating database into CFRP structural numerical model, formulating framework. This framework provides an accurate prediction (e.g., nonlinear behavior under tensile load), as well UD physics field evolution. results are validated against physical tests that link basic microstructures. proposed methodology comprehensive predictive applicable general aiming reduce laborious experiments needed.

Compressive response of a 3D non-woven carbon-fibre composite

The compressive response of a three-dimensional (3D) non-interlaced composite comprising three orthogonal sets of carbon fibre tows within an epoxy matrix is analysed. First, the compressive response is measured in three orthogonal directions and the deformation/failure modes analysed by a combination of X-ray tomography and optical microscopy. In contrast to traditional unidirectional and two-...

Viscoelastic response of woven composite substrates

Micromechanical models are developed to predict the time and temperature dependent response of woven composite substrates used in multilayer printed circuit boards. In the first part of this study, the elastic–viscoelastic correspondence principle is applied to previously reported elastic micromechanical models. The time-dependent creep compliance of a particular composite substrate (7628 style...

Automated modeling for complex woven mesostructures

Computational methods for modeling complex three-dlmenaional woven structure\ are reviewed and software tools for automated model construction are described. The tools make use of image processing, geometric and attribute modeling, automated discretization, and efficient solvers. The discretization techniques control me\h periodicity and volume fraction errors of meshed constituents due to appr...

Continuum damage mechanics based modeling progressive failure of woven-fabric composite laminate under low velocity impact

A continuum damage mechanics (CDM) meso-model was derived for both intraply and interply progressive failure behaviors of a 2D woven-fabric composite laminate under a transversely low velocity impact. An in-plane anisotropic damage constitutive model of a 2D woven composite ply was derived based on CDM within a thermodynamic framework, an elastic constitutive model with damage for the fibre dir...

Buckling Analysis of Woven Glass Epoxy Laminated Composite Plate

Buckling behavior of laminated composite plates subjected to in-plane loads is an important consideration in the preliminary design of aircraft components. The sizing of many structural subcomponents of the aircraft structures is often determined by stability constraints. The objective of the current study is to understand the influence of the length-to-thickness ratio, the aspect ratio, the fi...
